MY BIGGEST TEST: Jon Kays is preparing for a crack at the British title.
BOXING: ASHTON favourite Jon “Two Smokes” Kays is now back in training for what he says is the biggest fight of his life.
Former amateur star Kays takes on Gary Sykes for the vacant British super-featherweight title at the Dewsbury Sports Centre on May 24. The experienced duo, both 30, fought a year ago, when Sykes nailed a unanimous points victory to win the English title.
Kays has since had his chance to win back-to-back English title fights — both at the Oldham Sports Centre — the last of which was just last month against Lee Glover.
Kays had no apprehensions when offered a second chance at Sykes for the British crown: “I learned a lot from the defeat against Sykes. On top of that I wasn’t in a good place mentally when we met last year.
“I’m all sorted now, though, and I’ll be ready come May 24.”
