SMASH HIT . . . Trevor Lewis celebrates his feat of clubbing six sixes in an over.
ROYTON Cricket Club will host a charity cricket match and fun day on Bank Holiday Monday for Royton stalwart Trevor Lewis.
The day will feature a Royton XI against a Crompton and Milnrow XI - both teams featuring cricketers who played with and against him.
Trevor is currently in ill health but over the years has raised thousands for Royton CC.
His own cricketing career began at The Paddock in 1967, and while he was an amateur, he played with and against some of the world’s finest Test-match players who then regularly came to England to compete in the CLL during their winter break. They included Sir Garry Sobers, then the Littleborough pro, against whom Trevor played as a member of the Crompton side in 1974.
Two years later, he returned to The Paddock where his friends included John Holder, the former Test-match umpire, and Colin Croft, the rapid West Indies opening bowler.
Trevor later played for Milnrow, Castleton Moor and finally Werneth in 1987, before he returned to Royton in 1989.
Trevor's main claim to fame came in 1994: while playing for Royton against Crompton he hit six sixes in an over and made national headlines.
