BOWLS: THERE is lots of local interest as Greater Manchester launch their Endsleigh County Championship season with a group match against Derbyshire on Sunday (2pm).
Crompton is the home venue and the highlight there looks sure to be the clash of Nimble Nook and Tonge star Darren Griffiths, the current Green Final Handicap champion, and Derbyshire’s outstanding player, Andy Spragg.
The ultra-difficult Stretton BC No. 1 green is Derbyshire’s choice of home venue.
TONGE beat a strong South Manchester RBL side 10-4.5 (190-141) in their home Manchester Premier League fixture.
Winners for Tonge were Matt Gillies (21-6), Jimmy Derby (21-7), Thomas Dobson (21-7), Nicky Brooks (21-11), Chris Cooke (21-14), Gary Ellis (21-16) and Gary Smith (21-17).
Tonge are away to Liverpool outfit Richmond BC next Wednesday.
ENTRIES continue to be invited for this year’s Green Final Handicap, with heats on Fridays, June 6 and 13 (7pm), with the finals at North Chadderton Bowling Club on Saturday, July 5.
