THERE were mixed fortunes for Delph in the Drakes Huddersfield League.

In their Premiership clash against Slaithwaite, Delph roared to a big win. Skipper Grant Jones scored 33 and Lancashire starlet Arron Lilley 25 as Delph batted first and racked up a total of 145 all out.

Then the bowlers took complete control as Slaithwaite plummeted to 96 all out.

New boy Craig Fletcher impressed again, returning five for 29, while Jamshad Ahmad chipped in by taking three for 33.

But Jones’ men suffered a disappointing Sykes Cup first-round defeat on Sunday at the hands of Championship side Broad Oak.

Delph, who won the competition in 2012, invited Broad Oak to bat first and they totalled 218 all out..

Lilley scored 40, Jones 30 and Graeme Simpson 26 in Delph’s reply, but they crumbled to just 126 all out.

WOODHOUSES suffered back-to-back defeats in the Greene King Lancashire County League.

Hosting Woodbank, the visitors batted first, totalling 148 all out as Josh Butler returned five for 65. However, ’Houses stuttered to just 133 in reply.

On Sunday at Glossop, Butler secured identical bowling figures of five for 65 as the hosts recorded 169 all out.

Woodhouses’ reply never really got going and they eventually fell 49 runs short of their target despite Callum Megram’s gutsy 47.
