EVERYTHING is rosy in the Heyside garden. Back-to-back victories and an acceptance card signed by the CLL management committee for season 2015 made for a perfect weekend at Little Hey Street.

Shadley van Schalkwyk, the Heyside professional, stamped his authority on the game against Uppermill with his maiden century in the competition.

The South African hit 103 – his ton came off 92 balls – and shared in a key fifth-wicket stand of 104 in 15 overs with Ben Holt (45), back in the side after a lengthy ban.

Defending 234 for seven, Heyside appeared second favourites as Uppermill moved ominously on to 129 for two with 18 overs remaining.

But the removal of Andrew McVeigh by left-arm spinner Danny Cashin for a fine 77 prompted a steady flow of wickets, and the lads from Leefields were eventually dismissed for 184.

Cashin was Heyside’s main man with the ball as he bagged seven for 60.

Uppermill’s overseas amateur Cloete Buitendag looked particularly dangerous, until he was brilliantly held by Carl Newton millimetres from the boundary for 33.

Just seven points separate the top six teams, with Droylsden leading the way after a five-wicket defeat of South-West Manchester.

Stayley are second in the table – Oral Rankine claimed six for 55 in a nine-wicket success at home to Austerlands – while Heyside and Moorside are in a tie for third.

Pro Grant Hodnett finished on 100 not out – his first century for Moorside – in a 10-wicket victory over Hollinwood.

Glodwick, in fifth, chased down Whalley Range’s 183 with two wickets and two balls to spare.

Saddleworth are sixth after pro Imran Aslam took six for nine in a 118-run triumph over Wythenshawe.

And what a difference a week made for Sohail Mahmood.

Eight days on from being removed from the bowling attack after he delivered three full tosses over waist height in consecutive balls, he struck 114 to help Friarmere record a first success of the season at the expense of Micklehurst.

Adam Hayes was another centurion, registering a superb 115 in Greenfield’s 114-run victory at Shaw.
