Local knowledge crucial in Alliance event

THE lethal home pairing of Hazel Grove captain Mick Jones and professional James Rowlands showed their local knowledge as they posted an impressive 45 points to claim top spot in the pro-am section of the latest Manchester Alliance event on their own course.
Stamford’s Mark Smith was the top individual pro with 38 points, one more than Dave Green (Dukinfield).
In the am-am section, Cheadle duo Andy Hall and Mick Fenton led the way with 43 points. Hall tops the Amateur Order of Merit, two points clear of Vinny Doyle (Manchester).
In the professional Order of Merit, Paul Grannell (Vale Royal Abbey) has a 65-point lead over Graham Cox.
Paul Grannell set up a stirring finish in the race to the title by winning the Scratch Strokeplay Championship over 36 holes at Davenport.
