Tactical switch pays off for wonder Webb
Date published: 09 May 2014
ANGLING: MONDAY’S open on the Park Lake was won by organiser Darren Webb, with peg eight again proving fruitful with 9lb 7oz of bream, chub and roach taken on pole and waggler.
Webb was struggling a little, until a switch from pole and waggler tempted three chub – the biggest 1lb 8oz. A decent skimmer of around the same size pushed him ahead of the rest.
Billy Brierley was second, with roach to 1lb taken on 13-metre pole and maggot adding up to 7lb 14oz.
Simon Cook took fourth with skimmers and f1s taken on pole, maggot and pellet.
Already full of fish, the Park Lake has had another stocking with 500lb of roach to 1lb, perch to 1lb and tench to 5lb.
ALAN Shaw took first place in the Medlock Bridge AC Saturday open match on the Park Lake.
Shaw fished the pole and maggot at 13 metres, netting roach, chub, perch and the odd skimmer to finish with 12lb 12oz.
That was too much for regular Bob Harrison (Team HB) as his trusted pellet fished at nine metres over swimstim groundbait tempted 10lb 8oz of bream, skimmers, tench and roach.
With the Medlock Bridge AC Saturday open matches on the Park Lake now under way, the club is also starting its Monday night open matches on the same venue.
The draw for the Saturday matches is 10am at Kings Road, with the match fished 11am-4pm.

CHRIS Butterworth took first place in the first of the Diggle AC Tuesday evening matches on Tanner’s Dam.
Pole and meat on peg ten tempted 17lb 4oz of carp and skimmers.
Bob Dac was next with four carp and some skimmers taken on pole and pellet from peg 13, where he weighed in 14lb 8oz.
JAMES Cantello (Tri-Cast Highfield) was again in the money in Saturday’s Old Hough Fishery open on Big Max.
Taking his section with a method feeder, Cantello caught 29lb 9oz with grandad Ken Power (Tri-Cast)) winning his section on the same venue with 33lb 2oz.
Dave Holland (Tri-Cast) took first place in Sunday’s open with a pellet-tempted 59lb 12oz.
ALL SADAS (Saddleworth and District Angling Society) members should note there has been a change to the dates of the members-only matches on Eagle Mill Dam.
Matches are all on these Sundays: May 26, June 22, August 3 and September 21. Matches are drawn at 8.30am, with fishing from 9.30am-2.30pm.
SADAS water Kiln Green is closed to fishing until June 16. Under no circumstances can this water be fished in the closed season.

Denshaw Vale – Memberships are available. Contact John on 665 1779 for details. Fishing well with double figure nets of bream, tench and roach.
Dowry Reservoir – Day tickets £5 per rod, available in advance from Tight Lines in Shaw. Maximum two rods per angler. No night fishing.
Ogden Reservoir – Day tickets £5 on the bank and at Tight Lines, Shaw. Plenty of roach coming out to maggot.
Strinesdale Reservoir – Day tickets on the bank. Full of fish with the tip well worth a go. Maggot as good as anything.
Cargate Pool – Medlock Bridge AC members-only water.
Park Lake – Still a bit patchy with fish in areas rather than right the way around the lake. Maggot fished on the pole and waggler catching plenty of fish.
Rochdale Canal – Roach and skimmers feeding well. Simple bread punch and caster tactics are catching nets in the 5lb to 10lb region.
Hollingworth Lake – Day ticket on the water. Water is full of fish, but access to the pegs due to parking restrictions are the problem. Anyone wanting to give it a go will find bream, skimmers, roach and perch on feeder and maggot cast 30 metres or so.
Tanner’s Dam – Diggle AC members only. Carp making up most nets although still quite a few silvers coming out. Fish are spawning at present.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal – SADAS water fishing well with double-figure nets of roach and tench on caster coming off the match length. Slaithwaite water a bit peggy, although I had some nice roach on bread punch Sunday evening. Carp and bream coming out on pegs below locks.
