FOOTBALL: ROYTON Town’s slim chance of being crowned FBT Manchester League Premier Division champions has ended.
Mark Howard’s Town led the table two weeks ago when they completed their 2013-14 programme, but rival teams’ final fixtures have seen them drop back behind Hindsford and AFC Monton - and they can still be caught by Prestwich Heys and Dukinfield Town.
Springhead concluded their top-flight campaign with a 2-1 home defeat against Manchester Gregorians, while Avro were beaten 3-0 at Walshaw Sports.
The Lancaster Club outfit could finish eighth in the table if they beat Gregs tomorrow in their final fixture.
In Division One, Chadderton’s reserves ended their campaign with a 2-1 victory against fellow strugglers Wilmslow Albion.
Uppermill were beaten 3-0 at home by Elton Vale.
There was derby delight for Springhead’s reserves on Division Two, as they triumphed 7-0 at Avro.
Hollinwood’s second string were thumped 8-1 by Rochdale Sacred Heart.
HEYSIDE agonisingly missed out on promotion from the Huddersfield League Division Two as they lost their final fixture 1-0 against HV Academicals.
A combination of missed chances and a man-of-the-match performance from the hosts’ goalkeeper made sure Heyside had to settle for a third-placed finish for the third season running.
In Division One, Diggle beat neighbours Uppermill 2-0 to secure a creditable fourth place.
FAILSWORTH Dynamos bagged a superb 4-1 home victory over AFC Dobbies in the Lancashire Amateur League First XI Cup semi-final.
Dynamos, who finished fourth in the Premier Division table, now take on Prestwich in the final tomorrow at Little Lever FC (2.30pm kick-off).
Oldham Hulmeians lost in the ‘A’ XI Cup semi-finals, 1-0 against Mostonians.
