DARTS:
OLDHAM again proved masters of the oche as they clinched a third Lancashire Super Eights Elite League title in four years.
The town team swept to an emphatic 9-1 victory over Stockport, giving them an unassailable 23-point lead over St Helens, who have one match to play.
Defending champions Oldham raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to the efforts of Dave Adshead (4-1, three-dart average of 76.82), Andy Pearson (4-1, 71.78) and Carl Sneyd (4-0, 82.08).
Stockport pulled one back, but it was all Oldham after that.
Paul Cartwright (pictured, left) won 4-0 — he posted a superb average of 95.09 — and Dave Rawstron had a 4-3 (79.49) victory.
Next to win was John Downs (4-2, 75.33), followed by Lee Holden, who checked out on 144 in a 4-1 triumph (75.68). Dave Airey had a 126 finish as he beat his Stockport rival 4-2 (73.20).
It was left to Peter Connolly to wrap up victory — which he did in style.
He won 4-0 (77.32), clinching the final leg with a superb 150 out shot of treble 20, treble 18 and double 18.
Oldham, as league representatives, now play in the BDO British Champions’ Cup competition in Rotherham on August 10. They face the might of teams from England, Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland.
