RUGBY:
SADDLEWORTH Rangers slipped to third-bottom in NCL Division One after a 24-17 loss at York Acorn despite determination in defence.
The visitors held a 11-10 lead at half-time, with Benji Lloyd and Callum Siddall going over, Josh Bradbury kicking a conversion, and Lloyd landing a field goal.
By that stage both sides had been reduced to 12 men.
The incident occurred in the 28th minute, with York’s Dave Burns sent off for a reckless tackle and Ashley Webb, back at Rangers after a spell in Australia, given his marching orders for running in and punching. Rangers’ Dave Newton was also handed a spell in the sin bin for dissent.
York would not be denied and, with Anthony Chilton’s kicking to the fore, they fought back to claim the spoils.
Joel Johnson (two), Ryan Gallacher, Haiden Barber and Joe Budd went in for the hosts, while Chilton landed two goals.
Tom Dransfield dived in for Rangers late on in the second half, with Bradbury adding the extras.
