MOORSIDE have one foot in the quarter-finals of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s Tanner Cup competition.
Conditions at Turf Pit Lane had improved sufficiently after Sunday’s wash-out for play to commence last night, and visitors Shaw were dismissed for 125.
Lee Warburton did the damage. The seamer claimed five for 29, while Kane Fullalove top scored with 30.
Friarmere’s Imran Khan, with three for 27, helped dismiss hosts Heyside for 157 at Little Hey Street. He picked up the vital wicket of professional Shadley van Schalkwyk for 12.
Adnan Farooq’s nine overs cost a miserly 13 runs. The overseas amateur also had opener John Selby caught by Abid Hussain for 12.
Heyside were grateful to skipper Ryan Barnes, who made 75 batting at number four.
Both matches resume tonight at 6.30pm.
Meanwhile, Uppermill booked their place in the next round without bowling a ball. Opponents South West Manchester conceded the tie after no play was possible at Leefields on Sunday. South West Manchester face a £75 forfeit and a fine determined by the league’s executive committee.
The matches at Glodwick (v Droylsden) and Micklehurst (v Greenfield) will be played tonight, weather permitting (6.30pm), but the Austerlands v Saddleworth tie is likely to be tomorrow, because of the conditions at Thorpe Lane.
Stayley and Hollinwood are already through to the last eight after victories on Sunday.
