FOOTBALL: JOLLY Carter upset the form book last night as they beat Rifle Range ‘A’ 1-0 in the Midas Plumbing and Heating Oldham Sunday League President’s Trophy final.
The match was played at Chadderton FC’s Broadway stadium and saw Rob Walton bag the all-important winning goal. Jolly Carter’s Anthony Robinson was the man-of-the-match.
Rifle Range were recently crowned Jack Abbott Premier Division champions, while Jolly Carter finished bottom of the table.
This Sunday sees Chadderton hosting the Division One Shield final between Dog and Partridge and Rifle Range ‘B’ (11am kick-off) and then the Premier Division Shield final between High Crompton Old Boys and Rifle Range ‘A’, which gets under way at 2pm.
ROYTON Town eventually finished their FBT Manchester League Premier Division campaign in a hugely creditable third place, behind champions Hindsford and runners-up AFC Monton, after the remaining 2013-14 fixtures were completed.
Avro’s final-day 3-1 defeat at Stockport Georgians means they finished ninth, while Springhead closed in 11th place.
BOTH Midas Plumbing and Heating Oldham Sunday League Divisional Shield finals had to be staged elsewhere because of the waterlogged conditions at Chadderton FC.
Quick thinking by league officials found alternative pitches at Royton 3G for the Oldham Tigers vs White Hart Division Two final, while Hopwood Hall staged for the Division Three showpiece between High Crompton Victoria and Blue Club.
High Crompton surged to a 4-1 victory, with Darren Longden, John Ryder, Nick Campbell and Joe Krussmann providing the firepower. Adam Sutcliffe replied for Blue Club.
