FOOTBALL: RYAN Higginson scored a record seven goals as Oldham Tigers overwhelmed White Hart in the final of the Midas Plumbing and Heating Oldham Sunday League’s Second Division Shield at Royton 3G.
The powerful striker rampaged through the Hart defence time and time again to blast his way into the record books for most goals scored in a league final. The nearest to his new record has been three players on four goals each.
As well as Higginson, team-mates Craig Schuman and Shelim Islam held the aces for the Tigers.
But it was Hart who took an early lead through Anthony Duffy to get the final off to a flyer.
The goal of the game came with the last kick of the match, when Tigers’ Tom Heap’s determination took him into just the right position to fire home an unstoppable 18-yard drive with the aid of an upright.
Tigers manager Abdul Basit said: “We started off slowly, but after that we got our heads up and strolled.”
