CRICKET: GLODWICK are gearing up for a key spell in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

Runners-up last season, the lads from Warren Lane are striving to go one better and secure their first title.

But Glodwick’s three forthcoming games could prove crucial. It’s too early to be make-or-break, but skipper Nigel Stock knows the importance of the next two weekends.

He said: “Four wins out of five equates to a pretty decent start, but we’ve got a tough run of matches ahead of us. We play Saddleworth, Stayley and Heyside in that order, and each one should finish the season in the top six.

“That is the challenge we face, after which it is Denton West in the LCB Cup, so it doesn’t get any easier.”

Glodwick are still without all-rounder Shahid Mahmood and batsman Mark Parkinson are out through injury.

Wicketkeeper Adam Brown comes into the side for the first time this season against Saddleworth tomorrow, replacing teenager Jamie Symonds.
