Charlie too sharp for cup rivals

BOWLS: CHARLIE Roberts (Ashton Cricket) won the Saddleworth Bowling League’s Sharpe Cup when be beat Paul Heap (Springbank) 21-15 in the final at Springhead.
The competition was sponsored by Len Sharpe, and Roberts received £130 for his efforts.
TONGE’S Manchester Premier League title hopes suffered a severe dent when they lost 13.5-3 (185-163) at home to leaders Lloyd Hotel, Chorlton.
Gary Ellis (21-3), Dave Crabtree (21-16) and Matt Gillies (21-19) were Tonge’s only winners on a disappointing night. Their next game is on Wednesday, June 4, at Longwood.
GREATER Manchester women lost their county match against North Lancs and Fylde by 42 chalks.
Local players successful at the home venue of North Chadderton were Diane Fish (21-17), Amanda Ridley (21-14), Karen Hughes (21-17), Ann Burgess (21-14) and Rachel Fish (21-11).
MARK Garbett and Janelle Pertoldi (Chadderton) lost 21-11 to Brian Oakes and M Hazeldine in the second round of the Brennan Paving mixed pairs at Norden BC. The finals are on Sunday, 5.30pm
