Angling:

BILLY Brierley started and finished the bank holiday weekend with a bang, netting first place in both the Saturday and Monday Medlock Bridge AC matches on the Park Lake.

In the first match he fished long pole and maggot to net himself 13lb 10oz of bream, skimmers, roach and the odd perch. That beat Steve Hall into second with a chopped worm and caster-tempted 13lb 8oz.

In the second match long pole and maggot again did the damage for Brierley as he caught bream, skimmers, roach and chub weighing 18lb 14oz.

Gary Schofield took second but was way behind, with his maggot approach netting him skimmers, chub and roach for 9lb 9oz.

THE latest Diggle AC match fished on Tanner’s Dam saw some good weights. But it was again on the patchy side, with Steve Hall winning with six carp and some skimmers taken on chopped worm and caster and weighing 38lb 2oz.

Dave Machin (Fibrecare) was second with meat and pellet fished long netting him five carp and skimmers that weighed 23lb 13oz.

MARK Derbyshire took first place in the Twingates members-only evening series on the club water, with caster fished up in the water at 11 metres tempting 14lb 10oz of carp and ide.

That pushed Steve Baines into second with 8lb 4oz of skimmers, followed by Geoff Ogden’s 7lb 10oz net that included a carp and some skimmers.
