THE supporters at Delph were treated to an amazing run-fest yesterday as the home side stormed into the third round of the Heavy Woollen Cup.
Hosting fellow Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership outfit Golcar, Delph took first knock and racked up a daunting total of 343 for eight from their 50-over allocation.
The opening pair set the tone, plundering a 267-run partnership, before both fell in the same over.
Andy Gleave eventually scored 83, while Graeme Simpson’s terrific knock of 168 contained 17 fours and 10 sixes.
Golcar put in a superb, yet ultimately unsuccessful, effort in their reply as they went on to make 300 all out. Their top scorers were Craig Ruscoe with 78 and James Howson, who scored 64.
On Saturday, Delph eased into fourth place in the Premiership table thanks to a comfortable six-wicket victory at rock-bottom side Holmfirth.
Inserted first, the hosts struggled to 167 all out as Jamshad Ahmad snared five wickets for 35 runs and Arron Lilley five for 53.
Delph coasted to 168 for four in reply as Ahmad cracked a superb 86 not out and Gleave was left unbeaten on 34.
WOODHOUSES secured only their second victory of the 2014 Greene King Lancashire County League campaign at home against Flowery Field.
’Houses batted first, and helped by Nick Hardman’s super knock of 94, reached 244 all out.
Josh Butler was then the destroyer-in-chief with the ball as his seven for 62 return helped rout Flowery Field for just 121.
