HEYSIDE’S Nick Campbell leads the Saddleworth and District Cricket League side into battle against the Bolton Association at Flixton CC on Sunday (1.30pm).
At stake is a place in the last four of the Readers Lancashire Inter-League Competition.
Negotiating the first hurdle has proved a tough ask for the Saddleworth League in recent seasons.
They lost to the Bolton League in the opening stage a year ago despite scoring 243 for nine.
Campbell is desperate to avoid an early exit. Heyside’s switch to the CLL next season could make this the all-rounder’s last hurrah for the Saddleworth League representative side.
“It is an honour to lead the team,” he said. “I’ll be going all out to win the game.”
Of the three overseas amateurs, Moorside’s Francois Mostert has a proven track record with both bat and ball. Oral Rankine, once of Shaw but now at Stayley, impressed against Heyside, and Uppermill’s Cloete Buitendag, new to the league, has already shown he can hit the ball a long way and often.
