Tri-Cast Trilogy pays off for Power

Angling: KEN Power was adamant it was his Tri-Cast Trilogy that gave him the edge in the latest five-hour Old Hough Farm open match on Lower Benbo.

He needed all of his 17.5 metres to reach the far bank, where he employed meat and micros to catch tench and f1s for a match-winning 48lb 12oz.

Next best behind the Tri-Cast rod was Stalybridge angler Dave Machin (Fibrecare), who used maggot down the track for 37lb 2oz of ide and silvers.

Meanwhile, the Tri-Cast quartet of Power, Shaun Paddon, Dave Holland and James Cantello have been featuring in the Middlewich teams of four Spring League on the Trent and Mersey Canal.

Despite an unfavourable draw, the foursome still managed third overall and a decent cash prize.

Cantello claimed third spot in the individual standings — a superb achievement in a quality field.

Holland won his section in the last match and Cantello was section runner-up to cap a cracking campaign.

Such was their performance, the Tri-Cast lads have been invited to fish the prestigous Midlands Summer League on the Trent and Mersey Canal, the Shropshire Canal and the Staffs and Worcs Canal.

THE Twingates AC Tuesday series is proving popular and weights are good as well with double figures required for victory.

In the latest match, Steve Baines (Tight Lines, Shaw) opted for maggot over groundbait at nine metres to catch 11lb 13oz of skimmers and ide. Club-mate Tony Holden was the runner-up with a similar catch, but he included the odd small carp for a 9lb 14oz return.

THE locals did not hold out much hope for the latest match in the Hebden Bridge evening series on the Moderna length of the Rochdale Canal — and they were proved correct. It fished terribly, with most anglers blanking on a cold night.

The winner was Daz Kershaw with three bream for 6lb 12oz.

STEVE Hall was first in the Diggle AC Tanners Dam match, thanks to his trusty chopped worm and caster approach bagging 23lb 13oz of carp and odd silver. Darren Webb was second with 19lb 4oz of carp and silvers.
