danny cashin: five wickets against Greenfield.
CRICKET: WITH forecasters predicting heavy showers, play could be at a premium in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League tomorrow.
It’s top v bottom as Glodwick take on Micklehurst at Castle Lane, while second-placed Moorside meet Uppermill, directly below them in the table, at Turf Pit Lane.
Beaten in the last eight of the Tanner Cup by Stayley, Uppermill will be eager to remain in the mix with the third of the season gone.
After losing the opening game of the campaign — Stayley again proved too hard to crack — Moorside have since been unbeaten. There was plenty to like about their defeat of Greenfield last Saturday.
Despite three of their top four batsman managing only 11 runs between them, Danny Anchor’s side managed to chase down 215, thanks to half-centuries from new signing Rick Harrington and Fran Sutherland.
Successful in both games last weekend, Stayley will be looking to make it three wins on the spin at third-bottom Shaw.
As for reigning champions Heyside, they retreated among the pursuers with defeat at Stayley — they crashed to 88 all out — but hit back to beat Greenfield in the Tanner Cup.
Professional Shadley van Schalkwyk, with a marvellous 158, and left-arm spinner Danny Cashin, who claimed five for 20, were the main men in the last-eight tie.
That victory set up a semi-final clash againt Saddleworth, and the pair face-off at Little Hey Street tomorrow.
