Matt on mission to go one better

BOWLS:
MATT Gillies, runner-up in last year’s Green Final Handicap, is hoping to go one step further this time round.
He launches his challenge for the title at Royton Cricket on Friday in an eight-strong field which also includes 2006 champion John Wade.
Action will take place at four venues, practice is from 6.30pm and matches start at 7pm.

GREATER Manchester juniors gave themselves every chance of reaching the County Championship semi-finals with a 142-chalks demolition of Merseyside.
Tonge had 10 winners from 12 matches at the home venue of Tonge, and nine winners at Manor Road Conservative Club, Wallasey.
Manchester need to win their final group match against Wales on Sunday, July 13, to progress to the next stage.
