WERNETH found Dunham Forest Trophy holders Leigh too hot to handle in round two of their 2014 defence.
The local club lost the top four matches against an experienced team which made the most of receiving shots on their own course.
Lee Rowbotham (level after 17) and Jack Suttie (one down after 16) and professional James Matterson (two down after 14) were called in with the match result beyond doubt as Leigh look to make it four Dunham successes in five years.
Meanwhile, it was a case of keep it in the family when Werneth member Tommy Dwayre sponsored a midweek Stableford event — son Liam claimed top prize with 41 points in a card play-off... from dad Tommy!
THE Oldham quartet of Julie Connolly, Chris Pierson, Linda Hall and Mary Buckley (pictured above) won the Centenary Plate on women’s Chronicle Cup day at Werneth.
They had the best nett scores for their club of: Connolly (73), Pierson (74), Hall (76) and Buckley (76).
THE only two teams left with a 100 per cent record in the Oldham and District Golf League showed their mettle down the stretch.
Dukinfield beat Brookdale 7-1 in the ‘A’ League West Division, but it could have been very different as five of the points came on the final green, with the other two at the 17th!
Crompton and Royton ‘B’ did well to grab a 6-2 win at home to plucky Werneth in the ‘B’ East with two last-green wins.
That win sees them in second place chasing Blackley, who pulled off an amazing 8-0 win at Saddleworth.
Blackley’s A team also top its division after a 7-1 home success over Saddleworth.
