MARK Heffron faces a stern test when he steps into the ring for his 10th professional contest in Spain on June 28.

Oldham tough-guy Heffron, the 22-year-old brother of forthcoming European title challenger Ronnie, has won all nine of his bouts as a pro.

Next he takes on dangerous home favourite Ruben Varon, a 35-year-old former WBO inter-continental champion and WBO world title challenger, who boasts a decent record of 42 wins from 50 fights.

The bout will take place at the plush Hotel El Asador de Enrique in Madrid.

Light-middleweight Heffron has been at a training base in Marbella for several weeks.

Speaking from Spain, Mark’s manager Gary Hyde said: “Mark has definitely got loads of potential and at the moment he’s going the right way towards fulfilling it. He’s got another opportunity to show the boxing world exactly what he is capable of.”

Heffron last fought in Dublin in February, when a solid performance secured a well-deserved points victory over Argentine Mateo Damian Veron.
