SHAW wicketkeeper Graham Sinclair looks on as Heyside opening batsman John Selby reaches for the ball on his way to 60.
Cricket:
WHILE Lachlan Mason held centre stage for Shaw on Saturday, Scott Bloor was Heyside’s leading man yesterday.
Overseas amateur Mason blitzed 131 from just 64 balls as third-bottom Shaw, who posted 295 for eight, beat Whit derby opponents Heyside by 11 runs.
The Australian sent Bloor to all parts of the Little Hey Street ground. In one over, he smashed the
right-arm seamer for fives sixes and a four.
But Bloor exacted his revenge 24 hours later with eight for 31. It was the best return by a Saddleworth League first XI bowler so far this season as Shaw crumbled to 70 all out.
He snatched the prize scalp of Mason as well, after first being hit for six by Shaw’s hero of the
previous day.
Heyside had earlier made 265 for four, with Ben Holt (62) and John Selby (60) putting on 116 for the first wicket.
While leaders Glodwick, featuring 88 from professional Rehan Rafiq and Franco Lenhardt’s 67, hammered Hollinwood by 137 runs on Saturday, second-placed Moorside were pushed all the way at Austerlands.
It needed the calming influence of professional Grant Hodnett to lift the visitors over the line.
He was 46 not out as Moorside, requiring just 100 for victory, scraped home by two wickets. Mohammed Irfan, who continues to impress, collected five for 37.
Uppermill captain Dave Roberts, with four for 25, and James Baron, with three for four from six overs, helped clinch a 74-run success over Friarmere at Leefields.
JP Lee compiled 93 not out and Mudassar Butt scored 78 as Stayley, in reply to Micklehurst’s 228 all out, achieved their goal for the loss of two wickets.
Waqas Malik weighed in with a tremendous eight for 34 as Whalley Range rolled over Droylsden for just 65.
It was a terrific riposte from the Kingsbrook Road club, who themselves crashed to 101 all out.
Meanwhile, Jason Warner made a rapid 85 as Wythenshawe beat South West Manchester by six wickets. The home side were set a revised target of 122 in 37 overs after a rain hold-up.
South African overseas amateur Ryan Smith bagged seven for 40 in South West Manchester's total of 140.
