Local clubs draw blank

CRICKET: 

ALL four of our local teams were beaten during a miserable weekend in the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League.

In the Premier Division on Saturday, Royton were undone by two centurions at fellow mid-table outfit Littleborough.

The hosts took first knock, and with professional Clinton Perren (141) and Chris Schofield (102) in blistering form, clocked up an imposing 296 for six.

Royton fell short in their reply, reaching 222 all out despite solid efforts from paid man Pieter Malan (63) and Liam Brown (36).

Yesterday, Werneth were undone by eight wickets against visitors Walsden. Werneth batted first, registered 148 for nine. Overseas amateur Levi Thompson was top scorer with 35.

Walsden reached 149 for two in reply, with Jake Hooson unbeaten on 54.

Elsewhere in the top flight, leaders Norden romped to a 10-wicket victory at rock-bottom Clifton, who were bowled out for 184. Pro Daniel Salopietro led the way with 107 not out for Norden.

Heywood squeezed home by just one wicket at neighbours Rochdale.

Replying to the home side’s 170 for six, Heywood pro Farhaan Behardien inspired Heywood to an impressive success with a priceless 72.

Crompton lost by five wickets in a rain-interrupted Championship clash at leaders Monton and Weaste.

Batting first, Crompton posted 184, with overseas amateur Denis Louis scoring 39.

After rain swept in, Monton were set a revised target of 164, and they achieved victory for the loss of five wickets. Pro Christiaan Jonkers was 55 not out.

Dismissed for 139, Basement outfit Oldham were crushed by 10 wickets at second-bottom Radcliffe.

Sean Gibson (66) and Annis Patel (67) carried their bats for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Ashton (97 all out) were routed by nine wickets at home by Milnrow.

Replying to Middleton’s 209 for eight, Unsworth successfully chased down a revised target of 177 for the loss of just five wickets. Pro Chris Williams compiled a smart 50.
