RUGBY:
HIGGINSHAW have appointed Chris Goodwin as their new open-age head coach, with Danny Atherton as player-coach.
Both Goodwin and Atherton came through the youth set-up at Higginshaw, and their fathers – Ray Goodwin and David Atherton – were heavily involved during a great era at the club.
Weekly pre-season training sessions – ahead of the new North-West Counties League winter season – start on July 16, on the main Higginshaw pitch from 6.30pm. New and old players are welcome.
The club has organised a players’ reunion on July 19 from 3pm at the club. This year is 20 years since Higginshaw last won the Standard Cup, against Waterhead at Watersheddings, in front of more than 3,000 supporters.
