SHAW’S Lachlan Mason had one of those days when everything he did turned to gold.
In 90 minutes of mayhem, the 21-year-old Aussie tore into the Heyside attack with a blistering 131 from only 64 deliveries.
Spectators at Little Hey Street dived for cover as he blitzed 11 sixes and half a dozen fours.
The overseas amateur ruined Scott Bloor’s figures with 35 off one over — five sixes, a four and a no-ball — while South African professional Shadley van Schalkwyk went for 112 in 15.
It was his highest career knock, and Mason said: “When I took all those runs in one over, I thought I could just about hit anything.
“I have struggled to get to 30 this season, so the idea was to build a score and go on from there.”
Mason’s brilliant ton inspired lowly Shaw to pull off a shock victory against the reigning champions.
It was different story in the reverse fixture 24 hours later: Heyside won by 195 runs.
After lofting Bloor over the boundary to get off the mark, Mason was seemingly on his way - but he added only one more run before being caught and bowled by Bloor, who finished up with career-best figures of eight for 31.
Mason said: “It was my day on Saturday — a lot of the deliveries were in my scoring arc — and hopefully I can have a few more like that.”
KASIM Ali took a nasty blow in the face after top-edging an attempted sweep shot during Friarmere second team’s Whit weekend clash against Uppermill.
He was immediately taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital by his brother Abbas, who was due to bat at 11.
Kasim suffered a broken nose, forcing a six week lay off.
Friarmere were 64 for eight at the time and conceded the game to Uppermill (105).
