RICK Irving achieved an amazing double at Stamford by winning two majors in one day.

Postponement due to bad weather of last month’s Rawson Cup and Gold Medal saw the replay staged in perfect conditions, or which Irving took full advantage.

He won the Rawson Cup with a round of 67-6-61 – his first under-par gross score. The sensational round contained six birdies and only 10 putts on the back nine.

Runner-up on a day of superb scoring was Neil Angus (79-16-63), who was followed by Andrew Blanchflower (84-20-64).

Running alongside the Rawson Cup was the Gold Medal, a competition for last season’s monthly medal divisional winners. Rick was again the main man thanks to a stunning nett 61.

ADAM Rowbotham showed the region's top professionals how it should be done at his home Werneth course.

Friday's Pro-Am saw the professional prize carried off by the prolific David Shacklady (Mossop Hall) with a one under par 67 - but Rowbotham, in one of the amateur teams, managed nine birdies in what would have been a gross 65. Next day he repeated his blitz in the vice-captain’s prize, scoring only one bogey for a course record-matching 61.

"I have just changed something in my game recently and it has all clicked," said Adam, who will be defending his District title at Oldham next month.
