BOWLS: TONGE are in the mix for the Manchester Premier League title despite losing 8-7.5 (182-172) at the King and Queen Hotel, Warrington.
Leaders Lloyd Hotel, Chorlton, lost at home to Sale XL, leaving the top three placings as follows: Lloyd 84.5, Tonge 78.5, Sale 78.
Next Wednesday’s meeting of Tonge and Sale at the former club’s venue could have a huge bearing on the title race. Tonge winners at Warrington were Jimmy Derby (21-10), Matt Gillies (21-18), Darren Griffiths (21-15), Chris Cooke (21-15) and Steve Squire (21-19).
Gary Ellis was unavailable, but if he wins his match against Sale he will collect the league’s Last Man Standing award.
