Trio bid to get back to winning

RUGBY: SADDLEWORTH Rangers aim to put the disappointment of last week’s defeat behind them against fourth-placed Normanton Knights tomorrow.
Shane Tupaea’s side led 32-18 against visiting Myton at Shaw Hall Bank Road, but ultimately fell to a 42-38 loss.
Third-bottom of the table but with a game in hand on plenty of rivals above, it is vital that a young Rangers side starts to turn narrow losses into victories if it isn’t to drop into the relegation positions.
In Division Two, Chris Hough’s Waterhead side are bidding to get beyond their loss last time out at Stanley Rangers. The Peach Road side went down 34-28 in Wakefield and are on the road again this week — making the long trip to play Whitehaven-based Kells.
The Cumbrians are top of the division and have suffered one loss all season, last week seeing off bottom-of-the-table Stanningley 46-6 on home soil.
Oldham St Anne’s, a point and a place clear of Waterhead in Division Two, are in action at Higginshaw Road tomorrow.
SADDLEWORTH Rangers’ cup-winning under-18s side from 1997 pulled on the black-and-white colours to play in a reunion match — and won.
All the players involved have turned 35, enabling them to play in Masters rugby league.
“The lads had been excited about it for weeks and it was great to be back on the pitch together,” said one of the organisers, Kevin Fitzpatrick. “For some reason we all seemed to be a bit slower than we had remembered...”
Rangers are considering holding more reunion matches with former teams.
