CRICKET: SADDLEWORTH captain Brian Lord knows his side must put on their Sunday best if they are to reach the Tanner Cup final.

The men from Well-i-Hole play host to six-time winners Heyside this weekend in the last four of the Saddleworth League's premier knock-out contest.

On current placings Saddleworth have the edge. Lord, who will be playing in first Tanner Cup semi-final, said: "You could say we've underachieved so far. Our record on double weekends had not been good until recently. The performance in beating Uppermill last Sunday was pleasing, though. It showed things are coming together."

Lord realises Saddleworth's will have to be 'A1' if they are to book a place in the final on Sunday, August 3: "We expect them to be on the top of their game,” said Lord. “They are a good team, who bat all the way down, and have a good pro.”

The other semi-final pits fourth-placed Stayley at home to Moorside, who ended a mini-slump with victory at Wythenshawe last weekend.

It’s a big weekend for Moorside, who take on run-away leaders Glodwick in the league tomorrow.

Defeat for second-placed Moorside against Nigel Stock's high-fliers - the gap is 48 points at the moment - would probably leave them with too much ground to make up in the second half of the season.
