CRICKET: THE Glodwick juggernaut rolls on after the high-fliers eclipsed second-placed Moorside in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
What should have been a challenging examination of the Warren Lane club’s title credentials became a procession.
Reduced to 37 overs a side because of rain, the leaders clinically ran through the hosts’ batting line-up.
Mark Whitehead claimed the first five wickets to fall for 12 runs in 10 devastating overs as Moorside crashed to 89 all out.
Glodwick’s lead is now 49 points — Saddleworth are now their nearest rivals — while Moorside have slipped five places to seventh.
Saddleworth racked up the runs at Micklehurst, where they amassed 287 for nine. The home team made 190 for nine in reply.
After back-to-back league defeats, Uppermill got back in the groove with a 62-runs victory over Austerlands at Leefields.
James Baron scored 80 with the bat in the hosts’ 255 for six, then collected five for 48 with the ball.
Heyside’s Scott Bloor, with five for 19, sent South West Manchester spiralling to 54 all out at Ellesmere Road. The visitors lost three wickets before crossing the winning line and now sit half-a-dozen points behind Uppermill in fourth.
With Stayley denied by rain at Droylsden, Whalley Range have sneaked up to fifth after brushing aside Greenfield by 80 runs at Kingsbrook Road.
Tyler Lortan smashed the Friarmere attack for an unbeaten 60 as Wythenshawe completed an emphatic 10-wicket victory at Slack Lane.
Shaw’s paid man, Ather Abid, was 64 not out in a six-wicket success at Hollinwood.
