John Deakin drops over ther line for a Saints try
RUGBY: OLDHAM St Anne’s completed a rare double over Leigh East thanks to a 22-14 victory at Higginshaw Road.
Saints, in need of a win to avoid relegation danger, first went behind through an error. But the team then dug in to deny the visitors further scoring chances. Saints 12-4 ahead at the break and the home supporters were celebrating again soon after the restart when John Deakin barged over from close range. Sneyd kicked the goal for an 18-4 lead.
Easts replied with a try and conversion, but back came Saints again with a try but no conversion. Despite further pressure Leigh were unable to break through Saints’ stubborn rearguard.
