RUGBY: CHRIS Hough admits Waterhead’s crushing 122-7 defeat at Kells left him at a low ebb — but he is determined to turn things around from this weekend.
Travelling to Cumbria with only 14 players — including a handful of youngsters — the Peach Road side got a kicking at the hands of the National Conference League Division Two leaders who scored 20 tries.
The response of Hough’s side was limited to a converted try and a late drop goal.
“I’m devastated, to say the least,” said Hough, who bemoaned the regular loss of players through work commitments and stag parties.
“It is a kick in the teeth in particular for our lads who commit themselves and put their bodies on the line week-in, week-out.”
This week Waterhead play Wigan St Pats in the Challenge Trophy: “It’s a great draw for us - and a new week,” said Hough
Waterhead’s round two clash at home on Saturday pits them against a St Pats side currently eighth in the Premier Division.
