RUGBY: OLDHAM St Anne’s aim to build on a much-needed victory last time out by booking their place in the next round of the National Conference Challenge Trophy.
Mick Fogerty’s side claimed an important two points in their Division Two campaign by seeing off visitors Leigh East 22-14.
Tomorrow, the task is anything but simple as they play Featherstone Lions away in round two of the competition. The West Yorkshire side recently rejoined the National Conference but is unbeaten in 12 win out of 12 in division three.
Waterhead are also in action in the Trophy, with a challenging home clash with Wigan St Patrick’s in store.
Coach Chris Hough admitted he was distraught at the manner of last week’s 122-7 hammering at the hands of Division Two leaders Kells. But Hough is nothing if not determined and has spent this week rallying his troops.
Elsewhere, Saddleworth Rangers are at home again in Division One as they face a clash with Eccles at Shaw Hall Bank Road. Eccles are a place and three points clear of third-bottom Rangers, for whom a victory is vital.
