Tri-ing times for Rangers

THERE was no stopping the Saddleworth Rangers’ under-15s squad as they organised a sponsored triathlon to help raise much-needed funds.

The sun shone brightly as the Rangers youngsters – the majority of whom have been together since the age of seven – put themselves through a 20-length swim, a cycle ride to Dovestones, then a run around the reservoir.

Every one of the players finished the gruelling test of sporting stamina and strength, and were cheered home by a proud set of parents.

They were encouraged at the start of the cycle ride by Diggle’s Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimming star Jessica Lloyd.

Funds raised are going towards an exciting trip to Perpignan next May when club coaches hope to arrange matches against under-15s French teams.

A car boot sale is planned for Sunday, July 27, then there will be a summer rugby camp during the school holidays.

THE Oldham Amateur Rugby League’s annual general meeting will be staged on Wednesday (July 16) at The Royal Oak, Rhodes Bank, starting at 7.30pm.

This will be followed by a league meeting.
