TAKE THAT . . . Royton professional Pieter Malan puts bat to ball against Monton and Weaste in the two clubs’ Twenty20 clash.
ROYTON and Crompton bowed out of the JW Lees Bitter Tom Hardman Twenty20 Competition at the quarter-finals stage.
Crompton were always going to be up against it at Norden and went down by 69 runs to the Premier Division high-fliers, who took first guard and made 159 for eight.
Consistent home professional Daniel Salpietro hit 56 and Steven Pimm 35, while Crompton pro Josh Tolley collected three for 10 from his two overs and skipper Simon Wright three for 32 from his four.
Crompton mustered only 90 in reply, with Mel Austin top
scoring with 23 and Oliver Makin picking up three wickets for 22 from his four accurate overs.
Royton were brushed aside at home to Monton and Weaste.
Having first use of the Paddock strip, Royton scored a fairly
ordinary 114 for six despite 34 from Alan Durose. Furqan Shafiq took three for 22.
That total proved to be well within Monton's reach and they achieved their goal for the loss of a single wicket, professional Cristiaan Jonker hitting 39 and Jake Sandham 31.
The other last-eight fixture saw Unsworth beat Rochdale. Last of the quarter-finals takes place on Wednesday night when Littleborough host Werneth.
