EVERGREEN Manchester star Roger Smithies rolled back the years to win the Royton Sword, courtesy of a best-of-the day 67 in the second round.
He added it to his opening 70 at Crompton and Royton for a three-under-par aggregate and a five-shot victory over in-form Ciaran Doherty.
The host club’s Kris Sutcliffe was fifth after rounds of 72 and 74 for 146, while club-mate and Anniversary Salver winner Dave Norbury was a short further back after 76 and 71 for 147.
