Champion effort
Date published: 25 July 2014
SADDLEWORTH School’s Year Eight cricketers defied a spirited Crompton House team, and some inclement weather, to be crowned champions of Oldham for the second successive year.
In a repeat of last year’s final, Crompton House batted first and totalled 107 for seven from their 20-over allocation.
In reply, Saddleworth scored freely, and reached their target with seven overs to spare.
Sam Holt remained unbeaten on 25, while captain Matty Barlow notched a quickfire 37 before being bowled.
The Saddleworth team will now aim to go a couple of steps further in the County Cup next year in order to improve of their recent 2014 quarter-final exit at the hands of Burnage School.
