SADDLEWORTH CRICKET LEAGUE

LEADERS Glodwick hold a 29-point cushion over near rivals Saddleworth, who are next on the horizon for Nigel Stock’s men.

The two sides meet on Saturday at Well-i-Hole in a match which is sure to have a large bearing on the destination of this year’s title.

The latest round of Saddleworth and District Cricket League fixtures were affected by rain, and while Saddleworth in second bit a chunk out of Glodwick’s advantage by being the only side to play in similar conditions on July 19, the cricket boot was on the other foot this time.

In a game reduced to 35 overs per side because of a weather-delayed start, Stock’s charges dismissed Wythenshawe for 131 at Warren Lane.

Another weather break left Glodwick requiring a revised target 95 from 22 overs, and they past the post for the loss of four wickets.

Saddleworth, on the other hand, were thwarted at Droylsden.

Originally a 30-overs-per-side contest, the visitors were limited to 134 for eight.

Again, more rain followed, leaving Droylsden requiring 111 in 22 overs. They got to 85 for seven in the 12th, at which stage the match finished in a draw.
