CROMPTON are up to third place in the Lake Garage CLL Championship thanks to a potentially-precious reduced-overs victory against Ashton.
Only four games out of eight scheduled survived in the league following heavy Saturday-morning rain, but once Crompton got the all-clear to play a 33-over clash, they made the most of it.
The visitors took first knock, but stuttered to just 87 for nine, largely thanks to skipper Carl Taylor's five for 63 haul.
Andy Yates then scored 34 not out as Crompton eased to 89 for one in double quick time.
Monton and Weaste still head the second-tier table, but they were beaten by Unsworth, who replied to 148 for eight with 150 for nine.
Unsworth are up to second place, while Crompton edged into third after Milnrow’s scheduled clash at rock-bottom Oldham was washed out.
