Zelem on world stage
Date published: 05 August 2014
FAILSWORTH starlet Katie Zelem is in the England Women’s under-20s squad which is about to kick-off their bid for World Cup glory.
Zelem (18) was in the national under-19s team which finished runners-up in last year’s European Championships, therefore earning a place at the 2014 World Cup.
The tournament is taking place in Canada, and England’s first group stage fixture sees them take on South Korea tomorrow in Moncton.
Head coach Mo Marley’s team then face Mexico on Saturday, also in Moncton, before Nigeria provide the opposition next Wednesday in Edmonton.
The Under-20s World Cup final takes place on August 25.
All matches will be screened live on British Eurosport.
Former Blue Coat School pupil Zelem is an attacking midfielder, who now plays for Liverpool Ladies.
She transferred to Merseyside last summer after spending her formative years with Manchester United.
