The moment Heyside claimed the Tanner Cup
OFFICIALS in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League are continuing to come down hard on unruly behaviour.
In the latest wave of indiscretions, three players picked up bans of varying lengths.
Nick Lawrence, of Micklehurst, fell foul of posting “abusive comments” towards an umpire on Twitter following a junior match. The all-rounder was handed a six-game ban for his actions.
Leading amateur batsman Darren Shadford (pictured, below) was given a two-match ban, of which one game was suspended until the end of season 2015.
The Saddleworth player was found to have “deliberately damaged the pitch” before the start of the Tanner Cup semi-final against Heyside.
Meanwhile, Whalley Range skipper Waqas Malik was punished for two games for showing dissent towards an umpire’s decision.
In addition to the suspensions, the league refused to accept the registration by Hollinwood of Majid Khan.
He was reported to have played for the Lime Lane outfit in a second XI match against Glodwick under the name of another Hollinwood player while still being registered at CLL side Werneth.
Hollinwood later submitted a transfer for Khan, but this was refused by the league committee until such time Khan appeared before them to explain his actions.
The Hollinwood second XI captain in the match against Glodwick, Bashir Khan, was banned for four matches for what the league described as being “complicit in the deceit”, and the club fined £200, of which half was suspended until the end of 2015.
The league have attached no blame to Werneth. The CLL were informed of the circumstances with regard to the player.
