Saddleworth and District Cricket League by KEVIN RICHARDSON
CAN Glodwick take another significant step towards a first title or can Saddleworth show they possess the right qualities to win the race for the tape?
All will be revealed tomorrow as the top two teams in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League go head-to-head.
The game is of such significance it may even have its own flypast. If the crew of the Avro Lancaster, due to pass over the ‘Yanks’ celebrations, get to hear of the important goings on at Well-i-Hole, expect to see the renowned outline of the ‘City Of Lincoln’ aircraft swoon overhead.
While supporters’ eyes may look skyward for a few seconds, the ground crews of leaders Glodwick and nearest rivals Saddleworth will stay focused on their jobs.
Professional Rehan Rafiq returned to the Glodwick ranks last Saturday after taking a weekend off to recover from severe concussion. He will duel with fellow Pakistani paid man and housemate Imran Aslam.
That is only one of several fascinating match-ups in a game which won’t decide the destination of top honours — there are still seven games to go after this weekend — but may have a huge bearing on its direction.
