CRICKET: THIS weekend could well be a pivotal one for Saddleworth and District Cricket League title ambitions.
It’s another hectic double-header, and if long-time leaders Glodwick can do the business against Shaw and Micklehurst, they will surely be within touching distance of their first-ever title success.
Nigel Stock’s side will be brimming with confidence as Shaw and Micklehurst have both struggled this term, meaning the Warren Lane outfit will be fancied to prevail both days.
Second-placed Saddleworth – 17 points behind Glodwick – must keep the heat on the leaders and will be favoured to beat Friarmere tomorrow. But they play Tanner Cup kings and title-holders Heyside 24 hours later in what promises to be a mouth-watering clash at Well-i-Hole.
Third-placed Moorside’s ultra-faint title ambitions face a stern test this weekend. Danny Anchor’s charges have two upper mid-table clashes as they welcome Greenfield tomorrow and then head to Uppermill on Sunday.
Hollinwood could do with a pick-me-up, and they will be hopeful of positive results from a home clash against Whalley Range and a trip Wythenshawe on Sunday.
