CROMPTON’S hopes of promotion to the Premier Division of the Lake Garage CLL were dealt a huge blow when they lost at home to Championship leaders Monton and Weaste yesterday.
Saturday’s rain left the Glebe Street pitch saturated, reducing the late-started game to 25 overs a side.
Monton batted first and made an impressive 158 for three, Morris hitting 60 and Jake Sandham 55 not out. The visitors then ripped out Crompton for 63, professional Christiaan Jonker taking six for 15 and Danny Collins three for nine.
In the same division, Oldham (125) lost at home to Radcliffe (147-9). Home pro Mohammed Bashir took six for 65, while opposite number Nadeem Ashraf hit 65 and Hafeez Afridi collected four for 21.
Werneth’s revival in the Premier Division stalled when they lost by 77 runs at Walsden.
Home pro Umesh Karunaratne hit 80 as Walsden were dismissed for 180, opposite number Mohammed Zaman Khan taking five for 45. Werneth collapsed to 107 all out in reply.
Royton’s excellent form continued with a 71-runs defeat of Littleborough at the Paddock.
Liam Mason made a superb unbeaten 119 and Khurram Hussain 62 in Royton's imposing 252 for nine.
Chris Deakin took four for 95 and pro Clinton Perren three for 22.
Boro were then bowled out for 181 despite 46 from Michael Burns. Liam Brown was Royton’s stand-out bowler with four for 13.
