TWO Oldham Golf League clubs are chasing the league and cup double.
Dukinfield ‘A’ won the ‘A’ Cup 3.5-1.5 against Brookdale at Ashton. And Gary Beresford’s side faces Ashton at Werneth on September 21 in the league play-off final in a bid to lift both pieces of silverware, something last achieved in 2007.
Blackley ‘B’ also have the double in their sights after lifting the ‘B’ Cup following a 3.5-1.5 victory over Fairfield at Denton.
North Manchester stands in the way of Mark Crosfield’s team when they meet in the ‘B’ league play-off final at Saddleworth on October 12.
Dukinfield ‘A’ had wins from Matt Merson and Colin Mcgwiggan (2&1), Martin Schofield and Gary Beresford (4&2) and Martin O’Keefe and Pete Thomas (one hole).
Darren Burgess and Chris Clayton were all square, but settled for a half with the destiny of the trophy already decided.
Blackley’s success came via wins for Ian White and Alan Marsh (8&6), Ricky Valentine and Marc Greenhalgh (4&3) and Steve Kelly and Steve Murray (3&2).
Keith Liddle and Kevin Baron halved with Eddie Vickery and Tom Henthorn, while Fairfield’s only full point came from Phil Clegg and Steve Murphy (one hole) against Steve Newton and Phil Marcroft.
The traditional end-of-season team tournament takes place on Sunday, October 5 at Denton.
All teams must forward their entries by the league meeting at Ashton next Monday (8pm).
