Golf:
MATTY Hampson fired a magnificent gross 64 to equal the course record at Brookdale and win the Johnson Cup.
Hampson was nine up in the bogey competition, finishing five clear of Brian Storey on a creditable four up. Steve Pickering won a card play-off for third after finishing on three up.
DAVID Norbury was a double winner in major competitions at Crompton and Royton.
The four handicapper won the Holden Cup with a nett return of 134 for the two-round competition
Norbury had two nett scores of 67, beating Ben Gledhill (74+66=140).
Norbury also landed the club championship thanks to two rounds of 71 for 142, which gave him a one-stroke victory over Kris Sutcliffe (72-+71=143).
ASHTON’S Patrick Stubbs scored 42 Stableford points to win the final of the recently-launched Lancashire boys' under-14 programme.
The event reached its conclusion with 53 youngsters competing at Houghwood in an 18-hole competition.
DARREN Hoolickin won the captain’s day prize at Blackley with a two-round nett total of 10-under-par 132.
The 12 handicapper shot rounds of 67 and 65, which was a superb return given the white tees in use and even tougher pin positions.
Darren produced some brilliant golf in the second of his rounds, firing birdies at the sixth, 16th and 17th holes.
That gave him a one-shot victory over 14 handicapper Marc Greenhalgh
