BROOKDALE’S Joe Brice, fresh from his triumph in the Spencer Trophy at Fleetwood, was a member of the Lancashire team that retained the Daily Telegraph Northern Counties League crown after a thrilling finale to the campaign.

Brice, who also plays at Manchester Golf Club, had rounds of 67 and 68 to record a nine under par two-round total to claim victory on the Fylde Coast by five shots.

He used the confidence gained from that success to help Lancashire beat Cumbria 12-6 at windswept Furness, giving Lancashire a one-point league verdict over Yorkshire.

Brice won both his foursomes and singles matches and teamed with Huyton and Prescot’s John Carroll to win his pairs match by one hole, followed by singles wins by two and one.

Brice is currently fourth in the Cleveland Srixon Northern Order Of Merit with 515 points - though this is fewer than half the total of Bury’s Ciaran Doherty on 1,040.
