EVERYTHING is rosy in Rehan Rafiq’s garden.

His club Glodwick is riding the crest of a wave in the Saddleworth League; he notched his highest score for his club of 189 last weekend, and now he has a new contract. The popular Pakistani will return to Warren Lane for a fifth season in 2015.

For captain Nigel Stock, Rafiq and Glodwick are tailored perfectly for one another.

“The deal was agreed a few weeks ago, before his accident, but now it’s official. He’s a nice guy, a gentleman, and fits in really well here. We’re happy to have him back and he’s happy to come back.

The “accident” Stock refers to saw Rafiq spend a night in hospital after taking a severe blow to the head while taking a catch.

The player’s performances this season — with more than 1,200 runs and 50-odd wickets — have helped Glodwick to reach new heights. With three games left, the team is on the verge of winning its first Saddleworth League title.
